How Letting Go of Control Changed My Life and Work

Not too long ago, my life was consumed by a relentless cycle of anxiety. The boundaries between work and personal life blurred, infiltrating every corner of my existence. Thoughts of work invaded my supposed "off" hours, sometimes even permeating my dreams. I was convinced that someone was urgently waiting for me to get something done. The constant ding of email notifications on my phone compelled me to respond instantaneously, perpetuating a cycle of constant productivity and perfectionism.

Over the last few years, things began to shift. Self-awareness emerged as a guiding light. Through meditation and other self-care practices, I learned to love and accept myself unconditionally, irrespective of my productivity or accomplishments. I embraced the radical idea of allowing myself to rest and, at times, to do absolutely nothing. Prioritizing my own needs took precedence in my life, as I recognized that self-care was my own responsibility.

It was then that I discovered my true calling. What was once a source of stress and anxiety transformed into a meaningful mission. As a new business owner, my work ceased to be an obligation; it had become a vehicle for creating a positive impact in my world.

My journey with work-related anxiety has been full of ups and downs. Reflecting back, I now see what a powerful transformation it has created in my life.

This weekend, I embarked on a rejuvenating mountain getaway with my closest friends for my birthday. Purposefully leaving laptop behind and with zero cell service, I immersed myself in nature, unburdened by technology's grasp. With an open heart and a relaxed mind, I laughed and cried and allowed myself to be fully present in each moment. We sat in wild hot springs, climbed up to waterfalls, cooked meals together, and played games.

As I return to work today, I can tangibly sense the difference. The burden of anxiety has lifted, replaced by a renewed sense of purpose and balance. My journey healing my anxiety to embracing the beauty of life's offerings has reshaped not only my perception of work but also my approach to living with intention.

What is your intention for life-work balance? And what has been your journey there?
